I got one of these for my birthday. These Lark cupcakes sure are tasty especially at room temperature. The cake was light and buttery. I would have to say I was pretty good overall except for my actual birthday on Thursday. One of my team members brought me two cakes! One was a light fluffy mocha cake and the other had fresh fruit and airy icing. How could I say no?

I kept the drinking to a minimum (1-1.5 per night). The most memorably tasty dish I had was a toasted Ezekiel cinnamon English muffin with homemade champagne mustard and thin slices of Tillamook vintage extra sharp white cheddar. Just thinking about it makes me drool a little.

Well, I signed up for more Bar Method madness for the next 3 days till my honey gets here. Wish me luck!

Day 2.5

Well, apparently taking ONE serious exercise class took its toll yesterday. My whole body ached. Everything from the neck down to my toes just felt so sore. Yes, I said TOES. With the Bar Method, you do these moves where you stand on your toes A LOT. I was not a happy camper at work and my team heard about it all day. By the time I got home, not only did I forget to write up a post, but I went to sleep practically the second I finished brushing my teeth at 9PM!

So here’s what happened yesterday.

Weight: 129 lbs. (Yay!)

Breakfast: One big bowl of oatmeal and a banana Mid-morning snack: One sparkly chocolate mini-donut (It had sparkles) and a tall latte from Starbucks. Lunch: Starbucks Egg salad sandwich Dinner: One Sapporo beer, 5 pieces of sushi, 4 pieces of assorted fried Japanese delicacies

Workout: 0 I am going to my second Bar Method class tonight. Lord help me.

It IS the cheese!

When my guy and I started dating, it was a long distance affair (me in LA, he in NYC). Then he made the leap and moved to a nice little Venice Beach apartment that was 4 blocks from the water. He loved living by the water, but hated the bread and pizza here (it’s the water y’know) so we ate a lot of salads and cheese with crackers.

With this new lifestyle, he dropped about 25 lbs. in a few months without even trying. I on the other hand gained 15 lbs. in about a year. It happened slowly and kind of crept up on me. I guess every bite of delicious creamy gouda, extra sharp cheddar and fabulous fontina found a way to stick to my rump, hips and thighs.

Fast forward nearly three years later and we’re now engaged. (heehee) I’ve managed to lose 5 of those 15 lbs., but there’s nothing like an upcoming wedding in 9 (eek!!!) months to finally turn up my Vanity Meter to 10. Note: I hate to exercise. My mind will come up with a hundred things to distract me just so I can avoid it. But I think my attempts at portion control have reached a plateau and I must face the music if I want to be able to keep eating cheese and look great in that dress!

And so it begins…I will write down my weight, what I eat and how much I exercise on this blog. I figured there’s nothing like the power and shame of public disclosure that will keep me honest. Here’s to looking smashing in that wedding dress!

Weight = 129.5 lbs. (Why did my fingers feel so heavy when I typed those numbers?)

Breakfast = Oatmeal + 1 banana Pre-lunch = Cup of chicken noodle soup

Lunch = Half a personal size Vicolo corn meal crust pizza (Apparently, it’s THE SF original corn meal crust pizza. Who knew?)

Exercise = 1hr. The Bar Method (An ass-kicking combination of moves borrowed from ballet, pilates, yoga and other disciplines). The Level 1 class really challenged me today. I could barely keep my legs from shaking the whole time! I signed up for class tomorrow too. I know I will be hurting in the morning. Let’s see how it goes!

the new years spread was no joke. a mild fontina, midnight moon gouda, a nutty/smokey brie, and a mousse pate (not cheese, I know). The Cheese Store in Silverlake does not disappoint.

Two things I’m actually very picky about: spaghetti and mac and cheese.
The Kitchen in Silverlake features some of the best I’ve had of the latter. The picture above looks rather understated, does it not? But trust me, you will only be cursing the concept of portion control once you’ve tasted its extra sharp cheddar and garlicky cream sauce.

this pic/post was from a while ago, but I got the idea from the mac ‘n’ cheese pancake video below.

I was making my normal scrambled eggs and cheddar when I noticed the mac-n-cheese from friday night in the fridge. I chopped it up cold and added it through out the scrambling process, the result was awesome. I suggest you try it when you have the proper ingredients sitting in the fridge. (guacamole optional)

Dinner two nights ago care of the Cheese Store in Silver Lake.
-Midnight Moon-Florette (Goat Brie) pictured-Gouda from sheep’s milk (Sadly, we threw the package away before learning the name but it was delicious.)-Wafers-Fig jam
For drinks, we had three different kinds of rosé purchased from Silver Lake Wines (a really cool wine shop!)-Melipas (a Malbec rosé from Argentina)-Zepaltas (a nice crisp Santa Rosa, CA rosé) -Deep Sea: Sea Flower (From the Central Coast. By far my favorite in terms of taste and the sea shell motif was so pretty, I hesitated to even cut the foil.)
Yummmmm…b and I sure know how to eat well. This must be how I gained 15 pounds the first year we were dating. I ate a lot of cheese that year.

Midnight Moon. I’ve dreamt about this cheese. It’s no joke. Every foodie store I’ve been to carries it. This is the cheese that inspired me to start this tumblr.
